THE ANGEL PROGRAM

Since its inception in1983 (see HISTORY),  CFC volunteers and donors have provided toys, books, clothing, shoes, gift certificates for food, and even blankets/quilts, coats.

The program currently works as follows:

  • CFC sends a letter to the parents of all students in Floyd County schools (public, private, and home-schooled) explaining the program and providing information about the program and instructions for parents.
  • Those parents who wish to apply to CFC for assistance go through an application/interview process, including verification of residency and annual income.  If approved, they provide CFC with their children’s clothing sizes and toy/gift wishes.
  • CFC creates a numbered ANGEL for each child, listing sizes and wishes (but no names). The ANGELS are distributed to local churches and businesses for display on ANGEL TREES.  Patrons/church members select one or more ANGELS from the trees and purchase some or all the items for that child.
  • On specific dates these unwrapped items are taken to Reaching Out For Jesus Ministries located at 800 E. Main St where volunteers sort and check items against each ANGEL’s list, placing the items into a black bag specifically for each child.
  • Volunteers compile shopping lists of all items NOT donated.  Using monetary donations, they then shop for and purchase those items which are then sorted into each ANGEL’s bag. Quality control is done to ensure correctly sized clothing and requested gifts are contained in each bag.
  • On specific dates, parents come to Reaching Out For Jesus Ministries located at 800 E. Main St to pick up the bag for each approved child. They may also be given books and wrapping paper. (This allows the parents to see, wrap and “stash” the gifts until Christmas morning.) If enough donated funds remain, parents may be given a Slaughter’s gift certificate for food.
